Welcome to the GunnersoreArse blog, being blogged 918.74 kilometers (in a straight line) from the Emirates Stadium.
The Arsenal blog for Gunners who have strayed from the path of righteousness! (Thanks to Mickydidit for that gem)
In our last four games we’ve scored 21 goals and conceded 2. Since the FA Cup final against Villa. Should we read too much into this…. or could it be dangerous to do so!
Several of our players have now spoken the hallowed words… “We can push for the title this season”. Are they right in their belief or is it just farting in the wind? I would say to them, “Put those words into action on the pitch”. Which so far in pre-season they have done so.
Per stated recently, “We need to be at our best. We’ve shown in the cup that we can be consistent for six games. We want to extend that and show that we are real title contenders from the start, not only in the second half of the season.”
And there in lies the crux, are we about to witness our usual good end to last season, good start to this season and then falling off the pace for the second half of this season? Perhaps it’s the time to end that pattern, the time for the boys to prove that they are now ready to seriously challenge for the premiership title! They definately look confident, no more so than yesterday where they played some excellent football, with clinical finishing and a solid defence.
Wenger would like to see more of the team score rather than rely on one or two strikers to score 50 – 60 goals between them. Yesterday that philosophy took shape with Giroud, Ox, Iwobi, Ramsey, Ozil and Santi getting on the scoresheet against Lyon. Perhaps this is why he has not recruited another recognised striker during this current Transfer window.
However, Lord Harris of Peckham has assured fans that there is ‘Loadsa money’ in the war chest and it’s up to Monsieur Venger how he spends it. Are we about to see another transfer deadline deal being made?
Wenger stated this week:
‘I cannot guarantee you that and I cannot rule it out,’ said Wenger on the possibility of deadline day deals.
I don’t want to promise too much. We are open minded everywhere and we work hard to find the players we can.
‘We spent a lot of money in the last two seasons and bought Gabriel in the middle of the season to be ready for this season.
‘We are not reluctant to spend the money. Now we have the money, if we can find the players we will spend the money’.
So basically we are none the wiser, Arséne keeping his pound notes close to his chest as usual.
The first big test comes next weekend at Wembley, the Chavs are going to be a more useful thermometer to gauge our progress than the few friendlies in pre-season. I’m predicting the end to Maureens dominance over Arséne, an emphatic win to show the Premier League that this season, we mean business.
However, there is a but… and a big BUT, consistancy and avoiding injuries will be the key. If we suffer our normal list of injuries and have significant absences from the first team, then the possiblility of failure will increase.
And finally, the Rack of the Week vote:
GunnersoreArse, The only Arsenal blog that concentrates more on Tits rather than football. Every Sunday morning some form of bollocks will be posted…..
