It was like having sex but unable to reach an orgasm!

Yes, very frustrating! But we got the three points, kept a clean sheet, our two designated forwards got a goal each and we are joint second in the Premier League….. so why did I feel so frustrated during the match? We played some excellent football in the first half but were kept from scoring in the first 30 minutes by a combination of the woodwork, a keeper on form and poor finishing. On the eight minute mark Theo had a sitter but put it over with his head, we were all over Stoke in the first 10 minutes and we really should have been 3 or 4 goals to the good.

That’s what was frustrating, to see us play so well, create the chances but then fail miserably when it came to getting the ball in the net. The first half we produced 74% possession, with 13 shots and six of those on target.

Then the Big Coq won the ball back with an excellent tackle in our half, gave a short pass to Özil and then the little bug-eyed German did what we all know he is capable of doing, he flighted a sublime long pass forward, over the Stoke defence and into the path of Theo who was running in behind their defense and he slotted it nicely past Butland. Phew, at last…… an orgasm.

In the second half we continued to have goalscoring opportunities and the beautiful football was in full swing… but still the frustration loitered, an inability to score. Giroud came on for Walcott at the 75th minute and after another poor attempt on goal it took him just ten minutes to get his head to the ball from a Santi free kick…. phew, a second orgasm. Now the frustration was easing somewhat, we had control of the game and Stoke were nowhere near to getting a goal. Time to roll over, smoke a cigarette and relax.

Arséne Wenger was equally frustrated and after the game he said:

“My only regret is that there is too big a difference between the number of chances we made and the number of goals we scored but that will come.”

That will come, we all hope! Overall, every single player had a good game, playing in harmony and passing well. However, back to the goalscoring opportunities, there were a few guilty of missing fairly easy chances, Ramsey and Özil both had chances which they should have buried but considering our poor start to the season, we are still joint second and just five points from City, which taking everything into consideration, ain’t bad.

My man of the match was Coq au Vin…. the boy just seems to be growing in stature. He even had a couple of pops at goal and his longer passing seems to be improving.

Next weekend we’re off to Stamford Bridge and this couldn’t be a better time to put our ghosts to rest against Maureen. The Chavs are just above the relegation zone (along with the Spuds HA HA) and are leaking goals like the Titanic leaked water…. so next week would be a good time for our attackers to get the goals that were promised yesterday but were denied due to the woodwork, Butland and poor finishing… and as Wenger said, “… that will come”. I want it to ‘come’ next weekend.

Before the Chavs however, we have a trip to Croatia for our first group game in the CL… a busy few weeks approaching, lets hope the injury gods smile upon us.

It’s Sunday morning and a very wet and grey Provence, but still time for a chilled glass of wine and some spicy chorizo. Until the next time scum bags.

  1. Good analysis 69er. Only quibble, I thought Butland was the MOTM.

I hope we are not as wasteful with our chances in the coming few weeks.

Off on a Norwegian Fjord cruise on Friday, so I hope the ship has live footie, so I don’t miss the Chelsea game and also would like to see England’s first world cup game against Fiji. 🙂

  2. Hi VCC

I should have put Butland in as Stokes MOTM… but I thought Le Coq had a superb game, in fact, all the players had a good game, just the finishing let us down. Have a good cruise mate, hope you get to see the Chavs game 😀

  3. Morning.

I have quite a lot to say but just haven’t got the strength as yet but Shearer picked up the point that I made at least 2 years ago that theo is just too nice.
His goal was made for him,one on one, using speed but as to the other chances he should have put away at least two of them despte Buckland as with nearly all keepers that come to our place, having a blinder.

I see flamini and Rosicky completely redundant to the squad, should have been sold or released and bellerin will remain first choice so debuchy will have to sit and wait.
Giroud again showed that to put it nicely,he has no finesse but nevertheless took his goal well.

Ozil, I love him he has the vision of DB10.Cazorla back to his best and Coquelin geneally very good.

Not sure if Mertesacker will play so much in what will probably be his last season.
Sanchez, don’t worry about him, the goals will come and the Ox needs more than ten minutes whilst ten minutes is just about enough for Arteta.
Neither Walcott or Giroud is the answer if you are actually challenging for the title, but you can only play with the players you have, though with 3 players already on the long term injury list this could again be our downfall if one or two of our starters picks up an injury.

Money was there, loads of it but AW chose not to strengthen or couldn’t get who he wanted, whichever way you wan to look at it.

I thought our inter play was exceptional yesterday and 6 or 7 goals wouldn’t have flattered us.
Now we have a list of big matches every few days and we should get a better picture.
Finally Ramsey needs to cut out the hollywood passing and hopefully once he scores he will be our biggest goal threat along with Sanchez.

Give me a month or two and I hopefully will return.Oh by the way I don’t like those mucky gold away shirts.

(I put this on AA as well at the exact time that they announced a new post)

  4. Hello. Nice to see the site back up. Glad for the win yesterday. I don’t know much about Butland and have only seen a couple of highlights of him on tv this season but I’ve been quite impressed. He reminds me a little of Seaman, Schmeichel or Neuer in terms of a large build and using that mass to block shots as opposed to the tall, thinner goalkeepers like Lukic, Lehmann, Szczesny or Cech.

  5. Kelsey, great to see you back in the blogging world. First and foremost, I sincerely hope you are on the mend. FAR tooooo long without the maestros input.

You must be very careful with your comments, as I decipher a tad of criticism towards the current situation within the Mighty Arsenal. It’s alright posting these types of comments here, but please be vigilant and not miss post onto the other site you frequent. Otherwise you may be linched and thrown to the wolves.

How very dare you have the audacity to even comprehend a negative thought.

  6. Late again as usual, but have to say my kind of post. I would agree not many orgasm’s from a Young man trying to prove he is a centre forward. I believe you had the MOTM right NB, as Buckland saved shots that were well within he grasp, Theo in my mind took his goal fantastic, an over the top pass which his first touch was brilliant and a well placed shot that was very close to Buckland. Theo also had another chance where he was clean through only to panic and hit it straight at Buckland a good centre forward should have buried that.

People say Theo will improve, Personally i feel Theo is a winger, Theo obviously believes he can better Giroud who is also not at the top of his game. Theo had header chances, that needed to be controlled another panic attack saw it fly over. Theo has been with us for a lot of years, he is not a newbie, he doesn’t like physical contact, he struggles when his back is against goal, Theo is a speed merchant but faced with a fast defender is newted to the spot. Now i don’t like saying it but a striker gets few chances in a game maybe more with our side but he does seem to miss most.

Knocking a player who has played 11 and scored 11 is pretty tough, and most supporters would be happy but when you score eleven and miss a hundred tells me he is not top class. I like an orgasm like you NB but we should be getting more than a couple a week.

  7. It’s Sunday morning and I’ve just fallen out of bed… hung-over and fragile. What a farce yesterday, Mike Dean gets my ‘wanker’ of the season award. Post will be up before 12 midday… probably 🙂
