West Brom Bag all the points…………

Afficher l'image d'origine

I’m back in Avignon after four weeks where I was rarely sober. I have a new charger for my PC so am raring to go….. GunnersoreArse is back with a bang, but yesterdays game makes it feel like a whimper.

With a fairly easy run of games coming up, most Arsenal fans saw yesterdays game against West Brom as the start of a winning run to put us top of the league before Christmas……….. well we were fucking wrong weren’t we! Our boys once again showed how inconsistant they can be….. 73% possession, eleven shots on goal and we managed just the one goal from Giroud. The Baggies had four shots with one shot on target and scored twice. Cazorla missed his first ever penalty in the Premier League and both Gibbs and Cambell had good chances that they flunked. Oh but Arteta got a goal.

You just have to laugh in the face of such bad luck and the bad luck continues with injuries, the one we’ve all been dreading…… The Big Cock. It looked like just a knock but the Frenchman isn’t a player who goes off the field easily, he is one who would stay on no matter what, so do we read into that something serious?

It was all rather disapointing but give West Brom credit for playing the game with energy and commitment. They threw themselves at everything. What was even more disappointing was City losing to Liverpool and therefore, a win for us would have put us two points clear at the top. A wasted chance.

Up until yesterday we were the in form team, with five wins and a draw in our last six games but now, in a very bizarre situation, we have Leicester and Stoke topping the in form league, with Leicester top of the Prem on 28 points, two clear of Man Utd. I wonder what the betting is for Leicester to win the League? Could be worth a punt! I’ve just checked and Sky Bet have them at 100/1….. worth a tenner?

Next up is Dynamo Zagreb……. I’ve got mixed thoughts now about the Champions League. I’m tending towards finishing fourth in the group and going out, Spursday night football doesn’t fill me with any excitement.

Then on to Norwich away next weekend before we meet Sunderland at home and then Remi Gardes new Villa on the 13th December at Villa Park. One must hope that these will be winnable and put us back in contention before we host Man City on the 19th December. If we can keep the injuries to a minimum (what chance of that?) then I still believe we can do it. Wilshere and Welbeck should be back soon and I’m hoping Coq au Vin only has a knock to his knee and nothing more serious.

Right, Sunday morning, sun is shining, my mood is improving so time for a glass of Sauvignon and some spicy chirizo. Keep the faith Sore Arses, enjoy life wherever you are in the universe and don’t forget…. it’s just a game of football.

  1. Welcome home 🙂

Not much to disagree with there NB and as much it may hurt some I agree with yo about finishing forth and avoiding endless games on Thursday nights.
If Wenger went out and bought 3 or 4 players in January and some of our injured returned and had a decent run of games, that would be different.
God knows when Welbeck will be back and whenever he, Wilshere and Walcott return they will need time to get back to fullsteam.

The Ox and Ramsey appear to be fit, but in that respect I never trust Wenger or the players themselves that they are 100% and the Ox is another who is having a stop start career.
Now Rosicky, where is he and more to the point why is he still in the squad just eating up wages like Arteta and Campbell who really is pretty useless.
Of course Wenger will do the complete opposite this midweek and play his strongest team available, probably get another injury just in time for our away game at Norwich.

Oh by the way I must mention that defensively we looked a shambles especially after le Coq had to go off and Arteat who really is past it gave away a stupid own goal.

  2. Morning Kelsey

I really hope Wenger doesn’t put out the best team in the CL….. with our current injury list that would be madness considering we have hardly any chance of qualifying.

  3. Morning NB, nice to have you back mate.
Yes the result was a poor one, as you said a chance to take the lead, instead we go down places. What went wrong, well who knows, a team that when on the boil, will surprise and entertain, but on a day like yesterday looked tired and just lacked a bit of edge.

We know we have a Jekyll and Hyde team, never really knowing what team will show up, and then when you least expect it a bit of a no show. The game of course had its moments a Giroud glancing header that saw us take the lead, only to provoke Pullises men into some good positions down the left wing, I could see a West Brom goal coming, so could a lot of other people, and not surprisingly they finally got one .Bellerin has been missed, but today wasn’t his best day, the wingman he had to mark was a physical specimen and muscled our young full back a few times , he just needs to sharpen up a bit. Their second goal although turned in by the hand of Arteta , was from a lone piece of artistry of one of WB player’s He pushed all the way and delivered a low cross, that had Cech beat and Poor old Arteta who had little time to settle helped it in.

Of course we did make chances, but we had players who hit the post. missed penalties and really missed sitters. We may of had a lot of possession, but we looked sterile in front of goal.. Enjoy your glass, and spicy sausage NB, another one over.

  4. Well Steve, what’s all this censorship bolloxs 🙂

Actually to be absolutely fair our first goal and their equaliser were both cleverly worked holding tactics not spotted by the ref.
For ours Pers held back the defender therefore giving Giroud more space to connect and for theirs they held back Pers on the penalty area line so he couldn’t go back and defend.

  5. Hiya Kelsey, Nothing to worry about mate. Yes Santi slipped, unfortunate but one of those thing. Referee certainly missed a few things yesterday, players wrestled to the ground and all 4 officials missed them, nothing new you might say, as it happens in every game these days.

Now we know there is gamesmanship in sport, it seems to be part of the game now, Cricket its been part of the game for i dont know how long.. Santi was almost applauded after his miss, i did feel that the Brom players wanted to cuddle him, Santi had the hump no doubt about that, but a miss is a miss. Personally if these actions continue it may be an idea for someone to step up to place the ball then another step up to take it. Of course encroachment should benefit a retake, but when it relies solely on the referee, dont expect the right decision.

  6. It’s really good to see you back from your drunken orgy NB, I’ve missed your blog and your in your face opinions and comments – really back Street North London.

I was always concerned about the game against WBA and I was hoping for a draw and no injuries but I was wrong on both counts – losing Le Coq could be far more damaging than losing 3 points. Pulis had two weeks to drill his team and boy oh boy it was an effective strategy, they swarmed us every time we had the ball and used their bodies as battering rams.

In the end they had all the lucky breaks and we had none. Some folks don’t believe that luck plays a part in a game but Man U won their game by an own goal, Liverpool went ahead by an own goal against Man C and we lost by an own goal……………………………sometimes I wonder why it always seems to be the Gunners that draw the short straw!!!

  7. There is no such thing as luck 😀

NB. Happy to see the site back and working.

But what is going on here – 3 days of G’sore and nothing which needs censorship. If I knew how to put up a pic things would change sharpish
